How to Conduct Spa Competitor Visibility Analysis?

A practical method to analyze why competitor spas stand out in AI responses, across search, source, service, and action layers.

Competitor analysis isn’t about copying everything another business does. The goal is to understand signals that better answer the customer’s question and are easier for AI systems to verify.

The most useful analysis can start with three competitors, three source types, and three action priorities. This framework keeps data manageable and prevents the team from spreading across dozens of low-impact tasks.

Choose the right competitor set

Not every geographically close business is a true competitor. Select businesses with similar service scope, price level, target customers, and experience type. Also, list brands that repeatedly appear in AI responses but aren’t traditionally considered competitors.

Three competitors are enough at the start: a direct local competitor, a strong digital competitor, and a surprisingly prominent competitor in AI responses. This mix reveals different visibility drivers.

Compare by search query

An overall visibility score is useful but doesn’t guide action alone. Track which business is mentioned, clearly recommended, and in what order for each query. If a competitor only stands out for a specific service, the issue may be that service’s information coverage, not the entire brand.

  • Discovery searches: Top options in the area
  • Service searches: Specific massage or treatment types
  • Trust searches: Reviews, reliability, and experience
  • Comparison searches: Direct comparison of two brands

Find recurring sources

List domain names that repeatedly appear in competitor-recommended answers. If a source is used in multiple searches, it may influence the customer’s decision path. Review the source’s type, recency, and how the competitor is described there.

Not every source is an accessible opportunity. Instead of trying to manipulate editorially independent publications, ensure your business info is accurate and, if you have a real story, share it through the right channels.

Narrow the difference to three actions

Not every gap you find at the end of analysis has equal value. Basic issues like wrong addresses or broken booking links should be fixed first. Then focus on information coverage and source visibility for high-revenue services.

Score actions by impact, difficulty, and evidence strength. Don’t turn weak assumptions into high-priority technical projects. Validate first, then implement.

What should a competitor monitoring report include?

A good report isn’t just crowded screenshots. It shows the manager visibility changes first, then the queries where changes occurred, and finally recommended tasks. Raw AI responses should be accessible as evidence but not clutter the main decision screen.

  • Mention and recommendation rates
  • Strongest and weakest queries
  • Recurring competitors and resources
  • Change since last measurement
  • Top three tasks by impact
